First diet (Martha’s Vineyard Detox), new book: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society. Personally, I LOVED this book. Loved it so much that I quite literally forced myself to read it almost painfully slowly just so it wouldn’t end. I loved the whole written- in- letter- form thing which left me feeling as though I had unearthed someone’s personal letters and was slowly piecing together their life story. I could go on but I wouldn’t come close to the eloquent review, of which I whole heartily agree with, that my sister already gave this book (after I passed it on to her!) on her blog. http://megbarankin.wordpress.com/2009/08/23/the-guernsey-literary-and-potato-peel-pie-society/

Two friends and perpetual dieters who feel more like perpetual diet-failers, arrive at their monthly book club. Prepared to discuss The Guernsey Literary Potato Peel Society(a utterly fantastic read, but I digress) they find themselves deep into a discussion of diet failures. The most recent being one of the ever popular no-carb plans.

Frankly, most of the diets do work, for a while. Until whatever the plan is, whatever you are or are not supposed to eat starts to get boring, one slip leads to second which leads to a third and well it all ultimately leads to starting yet a new diet again! Ugh!

Hmmm……..but everyone seems to agree that they are able to stick with most diets for a couple weeks. We joke that we should just do a new diet every couple of weeks. We stop laughing, and the “two-week diet” idea is born. We will try a new diet every two weeks and report back to book club at our monthly meetings. Since we know we only have to stick with it (whatever it is) for a couple weeks, we feel confident we can succeed. Especially when, in this case, quitting will be success.
